The High Court in Masaka has upheld Justine Nameere, also the local government state minister, as the validly elected Masaka City Woman Member of Parliament.

While High Court judge Bernard Namanya found irregularities during the vote recount that resulted into Nameere's declaration as winner, he ruled that her challenger, Rose Nalubowa, failed to prove that the non-compliance affected the results substantially.

“Accordingly, the prayers to overturn the election and to declare the petitioner the duly elected winner are rejected. The election petition is hereby dismissed with costs,” ruled Namanya.

Nameere was declared the winner following a vote recount conducted by Masaka Chief Magistrate Herbert Asiimwe.

The Electoral Commission had earlier declared Nalubowa the winner, but Nameere applied for vote recounting, insisting that her victory had been robbed.
