The Electoral Commission returning officer for Kapelebyong district, Irene Hope Nakiru, has called for better coordination between the Electoral Commission (EC) and political parties in the scheduling of their activities.
Nakiru made the remarks during a Uganda Human Rights Commission community Baraza held at Acowa Town Council in Kapelebyong district.
She noted that overlapping activities between political parties and the EC have created confusion among both voters and political aspirants.

Nakiru cited a recent incident where the National Resistance Movement (NRM) displayed its voter registration list at the same time the EC displayed its official register.
This, she said, led to confusion, with many voters mistakenly checking their names on the NRM’s yellow register and assuming it was the EC’s.
She warned that such confusion could lead to complaints during future elections about missing names from the official EC register.

Nakiru urged local leaders to sensitise the electorate on how to distinguish between political party activities and those of the Electoral Commission.
Michael Peter Amanu, the LC1 chairperson of Atumukasikou cell in Acowa town council and an NRM flag bearer, blamed the overlapping activities on inadequate voter sensitisation by both the EC and the political parties.
