A large group of people gathered at the Kirongo landing site on Buvuma island to welcome Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidential candidate Nathan Nandala Mafabi, as he switched gears for the second day on the campaign trail.

He landed on the island at 9am aboard MV Palm Uganda, a ferry that was packed with his supporters and businesspeople.

Kadodi music and dancing punctuated his arrival and set the mood for his campaigning on the island.

To begin with, Mafabi, a first-timer in the presidential race, addressed a mini rally at the docking site, where many people had gathered. He promised the people of Buvuma that he would return control of the lake to the civilians from the army.

“We are going to give you back the lake. We know the lake means everything to you, and the army is hindering you from doing your work," he said.

"We will restore it to you immediately once we get into office. Buvuma has no tarmacked roads, why? We will fix all these issues in our first year in office.”

The FDC frontrunner thanked the crowd for the warm welcome and promised never to let them down, pledging to lift their economy and put money in their pockets.

“Do not sell your votes. If you do, you invite poverty, corruption, and decline in our community here in Buvuma. They can’t rig our votes if you vote in large numbers, because we will protect your votes.”

Mafabi is expected to hold a mega rally later in the day at Lukali after mini rallies at Buvuma Town Council and Kobero.
