The Kibaale Magistrate Court has remanded Onesmus Twinamasiko, the former Member of Parliament for Bugangaizi East, on charges of assaulting Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja.

The alleged incident reportedly occurred on July 17, 2025, at the NRM offices in Kakumiro District.

Court heard that the incident happened when Twinamasiko, who is also the 2026 NRM flag bearer for the same constituency in the 2026 national election, was protesting against declaring the incumbent MP Bugangaizi East Aisha Agaba as the winner of the party primaries.

In a dramatic twist, however, the accused was later declared the duly elected party nominee to contest for the Bugangaizi East Parliamentary seat. The tight race attracted three people.

Appearing before Nazifah Namayanja, the Chief Magistrate, Twinamasiko on Wednesday denied the charges and applied for bail, citing his status as the NRM Vice Chairperson for Kakumiro and a yet to be registered for the national parliamentary race.

Twinamasiko expressed concern that his continued detention could affect his preparation for the upcoming nomination period scheduled for October.

However, the court denied his bail application, citing irregularities with the sureties.

Twinamasiko presented Joseph Sentayi, LC5 Chairperson of Kakumiro District, Lawrence Bazara, District Councillor for Kakindo Town Council and Moses Twimukye Rushamba, LC3 Chairperson for Kisiita sub-county as his sureties.
