The Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) presidential candidate, Maj. Gen. Mugisha Muntu has praised the former Erute County North Member of Parliament, Charles Angiro Gutomoi, for his uncompromising character and integrity, saying he resisted the corruption that has consumed many influential government officials.

Muntu, who visited Gutomoi’s home in Tekulu village, Erute North Constituency in Lira district on Tuesday (November 11), described the late MP as a respected leader known for his strong leadership and dedication to serving his people.

Gutumoi, a founding member of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) who died in a car crash on July 8, 2023, was remembered by Muntu as an honest leader who fought for freedoms, justice, equality, and the rights of his people.

“Gutomoi was incorruptible. I worked with him while I was the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) president before I formed ANT, but our country has run short of credible leaders who have their country and its people at heart,” he said.

Muntu, who has been touring the Lango sub-region, has consistently called for good governance, accountability, and development in the area. He has also criticised the government’s performance, pointing to corruption, poor service delivery, and unemployment as persistent challenges.

During his visit, Muntu laid a wreath in honour of Gutomoi and urged locals to vote for the late MP’s son, Isaac Ojok Angiro Gutomoi, who is contesting for the Erute North parliamentary seat on the FDC ticket.

Just like the late FDC leaders Cecilia Ogwal, Opaka Okul, and Ben Wacha, Gutomoi was described as a pillar of resilient and accountable leadership.

“I knew Isaac through his father, much as I separated with FDC. I know that Isaac shall be looking for votes for his party's presidential candidate, Nathan Nandala Mafabi, but I have no problem with that because I do not want to complicate his life in politics,” Muntu said.

Ojok, who welcomed Muntu at Otara parish, Aromo town board in Aromo subcounty and translated his speech into the local dialect, offered him a sheep as a gesture of friendship and solidarity.

Hellen Grace Gutomoi, widow of the late MP, commended Muntu for his persistence in the struggle to liberate Uganda.

“You have been a true and patriotic leader who has stood the test of time, and I pray that God blesses you to become the president of Uganda,” she added.
