Alupo campaigns for NRM candidate in Gogonyo County by-election

The battle for the seat is climaxing with the arrival of President Yoweri Museveni who is expected to campaign for Orone on Tuesday

Pallisa-Vice President Jessica Alupo on Sunday joined other National Resistance Movement (NRM) leaders as they campaigned for the NRM candidate, Derrick Orone, who is vying for the Gogonyo County parliamentary by-elections, in Pallisa district.

The seat fell vacant after the Court of Appeal ruled that incumbent Orone, was irregularly elected following a petition by his rival, Issa Bantalib Taligola.

The other contenders include Taligola (independent), and Joseph Okoboi Opolot, the National Unity Platform (NUP) flagbearer.

Alupo who was accompanied by the State Minister for Bunyoro Affairs, Jennifer Namuyangu, Rosemary Sseninde the NRM director mobilisation and Members of Parliament from Teso and Karamoja sub-regions addressed, several rallies in the constituency asking voters to elect Orone.

The Vice President told voters to support the NRM candidate to be able to stimulate more development in Pallisa.

“We are here to ask you to continue a peaceful journey led by President Yoweri Museveni by voting Derrick Orone,” Alupo said.

She told voters that the moment they vote for Orone, all health centre IIs and IIIs within Gogonyo County will be elevated to health centre IIIs and IVs respectively to further provide tailored medical care.

She also promised good roads in addition to the newly constructed Tirinyi-Pallisa-Kumi road, improved agriculture with tractors, and sustained peace.

Alupo noted that on all its promises, NRM has continuously delivered adding voters not to interrupt this progress by voting right.

She joined a host of other government officials including Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, and other NRM leaders who have camped in Pallisa to rally support for the NRM candidate.

Orone told voters on the sidelines of the campaigns that when people vote for opposition leaders, they will only speak but cannot effectively reach out to the President and the line ministries to be able to help them when there are issues.

On her part, Sseninde said that NRM will win the Gogonyo County by-election because there's overwhelming support from the locals and urged them to turn up in big numbers.

The battle for the seat is climaxing with the arrival of President Museveni who is expected to campaign for Orone on Tuesday.

Polls are scheduled for Thursday this week.
