The National Resistance Movement (NRM) secretary general Richard Todwong has revealed that all is set for the nomination of their presidential candidate by the Independent Electoral Commission on Tuesday (September 23).
According to a tentative programme shared by Todwong, President Yoweri Museveni will leave State House at 9:00 am and is expected to arrive at the EC offices by 10:00 am for his nomination.
As Museveni heads for the nomination, he will be accompanied by members of the NRM Central Executive Committee (CEC), senior party secretariat officials, Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) members, as well as the nominator and seconder of the candidature.

Todwong confirmed that Museveni will be escorted by only 20 people, as required by the Electoral Commission, and that they will all travel in one bus. He emphasised that there will be no procession of supporters.
“All those that wish to escort the President in the procession will not be allowed. The rest of the NRM supporters and well-wishers will have to wait in Kololo, where the President will come and interact with them after his nomination,” Todwong noted.
He further revealed that after the nomination rally, the NRM will launch a campaign synchronisation programme in coordination with other political parties. The exercise will be managed jointly by the NRM and PLU secretariats.
On Monday (September 22), at the party secretariat, the NRM and PLU launched the campaign under the banner Tuko Pamoja. The initiative seeks to ensure a successful nomination for President Museveni, followed by coordinated campaigns and eventual victory in the 2026 general elections.
Speaking at the event, David Kabanda, the PLU secretary general, said that under the guidance of PLU chairman Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the movement would work closely with the NRM to secure victory for President Museveni and other NRM flag bearers in 2026.
“Most of the PLU members are flag bearers of the NRM party in the various parts of Uganda, and we have never deviated from the NRM party. We are NRM but working with PLU.

PLU is here to make sure that President Museveni secures more than 80% in the general election,” Kabanda said.
He also revealed that Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba has pledged full support to Museveni and NRM candidates, adding that PLU supporters will walk from their secretariat to Kololo, where the President will hold his nomination rally.
“When you see PLU members walking, do not think that we are defying the EC guidelines or police guidelines. We are doing this because not all our cars can fit in Kololo ceremonial grounds, and this is why we shall be walking to Kololo,” Kabanda disclosed.
