Iteso paramount chief Emorimor Paul Sande Emolot has cautioned his subjects against early political campaigns for the 2026 general election.
Emolot says early campaigns, which are being witnessed among a section of his subjects not only undermine service delivery but also affect the performance of the elected leaders whose term is still running.
The chief says he is perturbed by prospective aspirants who have taken centre stage during burial ceremonies to attack and blackmail incumbent leaders saying the move is unhealthy since the Electoral Commission has not yet rolled out a campaign roadmap.
Emolot raised the concern during the burial of Mzee Eliasari Oupat alias Obbo the LC1 chairperson of Amagoro A cell in Malaba town council on Saturday, March 30, 2024, after some would-be aspirants for Tororo South County Member of Parliament seat engaged in personal attacks.
Bishop Emeritus of Bukedi Diocese Nicodemus Engwala Okille, who led the service, equally reiterated the call for unity and harmonious co-existence.
Okille called upon the residents to have respect for one another and avoid being driven to commit sins that might land them into trouble.
Tororo South MP Fredrick Angura called upon his electorates to take advantage of the Government programmes that are intended to uplift their livelihood.
