When Gen. Otafiire buried his parents in one grave
When Otafiire became Museveni’s ally, he executed underground missions for Fronasa. He, for instance, recruited Fred Rwigyema for Fronasa in 1976. During the course of the NRA war in 1983, Otafiire’s father, Philip Katembeeka, who was not part of the war, died of natural causes in greater Bushenyi. He was buried in Kashenshero in Ruhinda. Otafiire was unable to attend the burial because he was deeply involved in the war. Besides, he was on the list of the most wanted bandits, which was compiled by Obote’s minister of national security, Chris Rwakasisi.
On June 9, 1999, when Otafiire was the Minister of State for Local Government, his mother, Josephine Kengoro, died of brain tumour. During preparations for his mother’s burial, Otafiire instructed grave diggers to first exhume the remains of his father, who had been buried 16 years ago. Once the remains of his father were exhumed, he instructed the grave diggers to dig a larger grave in which he buried both the remains of his father and the body of his mother.
