Rotary inducts former archbishop of Kampala Archdiocese Cardinal Wamala
The 99-year-old Catholic prelate was inducted as an honorary member of the Rotary Club of Nsambya Premium at his retirement residence in Nsambya, Makindye Division, on Wednesday (July 15, 2026).

The former archbishop of Kampala Archdiocese, Emmanuel Cardinal Dr. Wamala, is now an accomplished Rotarian.
The 99-year-old Catholic prelate was inducted as an honorary member of the Rotary Club of Nsambya Premium at his retirement residence in Nsambya, Makindye Division, on Wednesday (July 15, 2026).
The function was presided over by the Rotary Governor, Daniel Mukasa Ddamulira. As an act of induction, Ddamulira decorated Dr Wamala with a Rotary badge.

The President of the Rotary Club of Nsambya Premium, Fr. Pontian Mayega, said the club would bank on the Cardinal's deep faith, reputation, and prayers to work even harder to improve the living conditions of the people.
"The Cardinal is a man of deep faith. He is very committed to humanity. It is a big opportunity for us to have him as our member," Mayega said.
Mayega further explained that as an honorary member of the club, Cardinal Wamala will not be obliged to attend the club's weekly meetings or field activities.
"We shall always seek his wisdom, guidance and moral support. We shall also bank on his prayers in all our humanitarian endeavours," Mayega said.
Cardinal Dr Wamala thanked the Rotarians of Nsambya for deeming him worthy to be a member of the club and promised to give them due support in their voluntary work.
After inducting the Cardinal, the Rotary District Governor had fellowship with the Rotarians of Nsambya at Cardinal Nsubuga Leadership Training Centre (in Nsambya), where he inducted new members into the club, further to launching the club’s 3-year strategic plan. Among the inductees were Catholic clerics, who included Fr. Simon Peter Ssekyanzi and Fr. Honoratus Kazibwe.
Governor Ddamulira later launched the club's anthem and strategic plan.
Members of the group based at Mubiru Zone, Nsambya parish, make briquettes from waste materials.

Governor Ddamulira later commissioned the electric briquettes -making machine, which the Rotarians of Nsambya donated to the members of Nsambya Environmental Initiative, to ease their work. The machine was installed at St. Peter's Proto-Cathedral parish, Nsambya, courtesy of the parish-priest, Fr. Joseph Ssemanda.
Governor Ddamulira thanked members of the Rotary Club of Nsambya Premium for their dynamism, zeal and deep commitment to Rotary service. He said the club had performed exceptionally well, especially considering that it had only recently been chartered.
During his visit, Governor Ddamulira was accompanied by his wife, Canon Alice Ddamulira; the Assistant Governor, Rtn. Rita Baraka; the Country Chairman, Rotarian Yusuf Kigoye; Rotarian Fr. Peter Musumba and Rotarian Florence Malinga.
