Grace Lubaale elected 4th bishop of Busoga Diocese

Lubaale, who is replacing Bishop Paul Moses Samson Naimanhye, who has reached retirement age, will be consecrated and enthroned on December 14,  2025, at Christ Cathedral Bugembe in Jinja city, according to a statement issued by Church of Uganda acting Provincial secretary Balaam Muheebwa.

The House of Bishops of Church of Uganda, sitting at Lweza Training and Conference Centre, has today, October 7, 2025, elected The Rev. Can. Assoc. Prof. Dr Grace Lubaale, as the fourth Bishop of Busoga Diocese, New Vision Online has learnt.

Lubaale, who is replacing Bishop Paul Moses Samson Naimanhye, who has reached retirement age, will be consecrated and enthroned on December 14,  2025, at Christ Cathedral Bugembe in Jinja city, according to a statement issued by Church of Uganda acting Provincial secretary Balaam Muheebwa. 

‎Lubaale was born on October 9, 1978, in Bugombya Zone, Butansi parish, Butansi sub-county, Bugabula County in Kamuli district. He received Jesus Christ as his Lord and Saviour in December 1994. 

‎He was ordained a Deacon in the Diocese of Kampala in 2008, priest in 2009, and installed as a Canon of Education and Training at All Saints Cathedral, Kampala, on November 1, 2024.

Lubaale is married to Clare Louise Atuheirwe, and God has blessed them with four Children.

‎He has a PhD in development studies, master of arts in theology, master of arts in development studies and a bachelor of arts with education, according to the statement.

Provincial tribunal commissioned

‎Earlier today,  Church of Uganda Archbishop Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu commissioned the Provincial Tribunal to handle disputes within the Church.

‎Before being commissioned, the Tribunal underwent orientation with Justice Mike Chibita of the Supreme Court as the lead facilitator, according to the statement.

‎Members of the Tribunal, include provincial chancellor as the chairperson of the Tribunal Can. Naboth Muhairwe, Ankole bishop Fred Sheldon Mwesigwa, North Kigezi Bishop Onesimus Asiimwe, Nebbi bishop Pons Awinjo Ozelle, Mityana bishop James Bukomeko, East Rwenzori bishop George Turyasingura and Mbale bishop John Wilson Nandaah.

‎Others are Justice Hellen Obura representing the Laity and The Very Rev. Canon. Dr. Rebecca Nyegenye representing the Clergy.
