Youth leaders from different parts of the country are gearing up for the 8th Youth Convention set for June 28, 2025, at Migyera Uweso Secondary School Nakasongola.

Activities will include a symposium on different topics including mental health and wellbeing.

One of the conveners Martin Sabiiti Rwabihurwa, the Chief Executive Officer of the Uganda Christian Lawyer Fraternity revealed that the youth will also learn about the cause of drug abuse and how to avoid it.

Other skills that the youth will be equipped with include how to use social media to fight corruption as part of their contribution to nation-building.

Sabiiti says that his group will be working with the Uganda Youth Forum to identify experts in various fields; including legal experts, youth cancellers, social media experts, religious leaders, and parents among others to help them repurpose their lives.

Under the theme, 'The Role of Youth in Nation Building' derived from Nehemiah 2:17, the convention will also focus on the promotion of steadfastness, sense of purpose, self-awareness and self-worth among the youth.

Leonard Imanishimwe, the executive director of Uganda Youth Forum, explained further that the teachings and counselling services during the convention will enhance youth competitiveness through positive character building and the requisite technical skills among the youth.

Since the Convention is targeting youth, Imanishimwe appealed to school heads and parents to allow students to attend in person or online.

“We have also engaged many schools, universities and tertiary institutions to livestream this event for their students. We call upon Headteachers and Principals who want to set up satellite viewing centres for their students to contact us for registration and mention during the convention,” he explained.

The two organizations explained the importance of the convention to the media on Thursday, June 12, at the Uganda Media Center in Kampala.
