“We have received disturbing news from our branch and regional leaders of West Nile of assaulting our midwives Emily Angumaru and Acen Mary. We have dispatched our team and we are waiting to get results from them to get the facts of what happened,” Kiplangant said.

The Police reference number for Emilly is no 34/25/06/23 and Acen’s ref no 23/26/06/ the cases were recorded as assault at Adjumani police station.

He said the two midwives reported on 23 June at 10pm.

The midwives were assaulted while still in the dressing room preparing for the night duty.

He said the matter was reported to police but investigation is still going on.

He advised the nurses and midwives and Uganda, in general, to remain calm as the matter is being handled.

Angumaru speaks out

Angumaru speaking on a telephone interview said she was still in pain hospitalised and would not want to explain what happened to the New Vision reporter.

Ojja denies allegations

The Adjumani Hospital Administrator Ojja, on Monday, July 17, 2023, in a telephone interview said the midwives were not beaten as claimed in the media.

Ojja said instead accused them of neglecting to give medicine to pregnant mothers claiming there is no medicine in the hospital which is not true.

He accused five midwives of denying expectant mothers in the wards access to medicines and that the patients have been forced to buy medicines outside the hospital premises.

He said he has written letters to discipline them and have them transferred to other stations.

"They mix politics at the hospital. There is no way this can be accepted and there is no cause for alarm even if they left the hospital,” he said.
