WEST NILE - Deputy Inspector General of Government (IGG) says she is irked by West Nile-based civil servants implicated in absenteeism and extortion.

Deputy IGG Anne Twinomugisha Muhairwe, who is in the West Nile region to among others assess the level of service delivery and engage leaders on matters of anti-corruption, has threatened to effect the arrest of those implicated in the vice.

Twinomugisha on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, made impromptu spot checks at selected public facilities in Terego and Maracha districts where she discovered gross misconduct and absenteeism.

At Cilio Health Centre III in Terego district, during one of her spot-checks, Twinomugisha found out that the In-charge of the facility, Dr Francis Anguzu, was allegedly irregularly deploying unqualified staff to attend to patients.

She also discovered that the midwives at the maternity ward were allegedly selling the Mama Kits at shillings 5,000 to expectant mothers against the guideline of the health ministry to provide them freely.

Meanwhile, at the nearby Cilio Primary School in Terego district, she found out that most teachers are always absent, leaving learners stranded as only seven out of 18 teachers were present at the school premises.

Consequently, headteacher Florence Ajio and deputy headteacher Albert Asega were also directed to report to the office of IGG Arua on Tuesday next week.

The Deputy IGG also directed Terego district education officer Ejidra Dradria and acting district health officer Simon Ongua who supervise the two institutions found in mess during the inspection to report to her office in Kampala over failing to attend.

Twinomugisha said the law allows them to arrest or cause arrest of any civil servant found contravening the service provision standing orders as she warned them against the unprofessionalism at duty places.

She also decried the rampant political interference resulting in poor service delivery in different districts.

The deputy IGG is today interfacing with the officials from Arua city and district before heading to Zombo on Thursday.
