Rt. Rev. Julius Caesar Nina Otim, the Bishop of West Lango Diocese, has called for the enactment of bylaws to protect children from the perpetrators of their rights.

Bishop Nina made the call during Easter Sunday prayers held at St Peter's Cathedral Church, the West Lango diocesan headquarters located in Aduku Town Council, Kwania district.

The Bishop's call comes at a time when child trafficking, child labour and cases of aggravated defilement have continued to persist in many parts of the country.

“I want to appeal to the government to find ways of enacting laws to guard children from the hands of perpetrators. Children should be protected because the number of children is increasing on the streets. The government should find concrete measures to protect children from defilers. The rights of girl children are at stake,” he said.

Nina expressed concern over the overwhelming cases of land wrangles, especially tensions between church-founded schools and the community.

“The population is on the increase in Uganda daily due to high birth rates. This implies that cases of land wrangles will increase. We have already witnessed wrangles between church-founded schools and the surrounding communities and this has affected mission and pastoral work because of the conflicts that have generated hatred for God's servants,” he said.

Rev. Canon Vincent Ogwang, the Dean of St Peter's Cathedral Church, tasked Christians to use the Easter period for reflection.

“Use this Easter period to reflect on your ways of life. From 2023 to 2024, what will you put before God? For he says call I will answer, knock, it will be opened. Put your family and your work before God,” he said.

On Sunday, over 500 Christians from small churches within the diocese of West Lango, thronged St Peter's Cathedral Church Aduku to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ known as Easter Sunday.

Many Christians who spoke to New Vision said the resurrection of Jesus Christ has brought hope, love and peace into their lives.

Joshua Olomo, one of the Christians said “I can feel I am so different today. I was going through a lot ranging from financial problems and family issues. I believe the resurrection of Jesus Christ has given new solutions. The solution of forgiveness, and love.”
