Weekly Market Wrap: Umeme moves highest turnover
Throughout the week, traded turnover at the Uganda Securities Exchange (USE) soared by 132.47% to sh344.2m, up from sh148m exchanged last week, according to data from Crested Capital.
Umeme, the power distributor, led the pack with the highest turnover of sh236m, accounting for 68.79% of the weekly total turnover.
Bank of Baroda (BOBU) followed with a turnover of sh39m, Stanbic traded sh36.8m, MTN exchanged sh27.5m, Quality Chemicals Industries Limited (QCIL) recorded a value of sh3.8m, Airtel Uganda dealt about sh270,000, while dfcu Limited moved a meagre sh450.
Share price movements
At the week’s close, only QCIL had a price change from the previous week’s close, adding 0.96% to close at sh52.50, while other active counters remained unchanged.
MTN at sh170, Stanbic at sh32, Umeme at sh400, BOBU at sh15, DFCU at sh225, and Airtel Uganda at sh89.
On the Cross-listings, KCB Group led the gainers - advancing by 9.26%, Centum Investments appreciated 6.69%, Equity Group Holdings added 6.45%, Nation Media Group rose 4.84%. On the loser’s side, Jubilee Holdings Limited fell 1.77%, and East African Breweries Limited lost 0.95%.
The USE All Share Index (ALSI) closed the week at 2.45% higher to its 4-week high of 913.97, while the C11-Crested’s local companies’ index was up 0.02% WoW to 96.90 index points.
