Weekly Market Wrap: USE sees decline in activity, Umeme tops movers

This week, only seven counters experienced activity at the Uganda Securities Exchange (USE). According to data released by Crested Capital, trading turnover fell to sh501m, a decline of 75.41% from the previous week’s turnover of more than sh2b.

The total volume of shares traded also saw a decrease to 3.59 million shares compared to 40.59 million shares traded in the previous week. Umeme emerged as the top mover, with 893,885 shares exchanged.

Umeme exchanged shares worth sh410m or 81.89% of the weekly turnover on the USE. Following Umeme, MTN recorded a turnover of sh43.2m, while Bank of Baroda (BOBU) traded sh35m.

Stanbic saw a turnover of sh10.1m, Airtel Uganda recorded sh2.1m, and dfcu Limited (DFCU) and Uganda Clays Limited (UCL) exchanged sh205, 200 and sh87,500 respectively.

In terms of price changes, five counters registered fluctuations. Umeme saw a 2.22% increase to sh460, while Stanbic gained 0.51% to sh35.18.

On the flip side, Airtel Uganda saw a 0.62% decline to sh79.50, DFCU experienced a 1.71% decrease to sh225, and UCL dropped 3.85% to sh12.5. MTN and Bank of Baroda (BOBU) remained unchanged at sh173 and sh16.5 respectively.

On the cross-listings, KCB Group led the gainers with a 9.87% increase, followed by Centum Investments which rose by 7.28%. East African Breweries Limited recorded a modest gain of 0.49%, while Nation Media Group fell by 3.77%. Jubilee Holdings Limited experienced a decline of 5.94%, and Equity Group Holdings stumbled by 8.89%.

The USE All Share Index ended the week with a decline of 0.85% to 1,031.23. The C11 index managed a marginal gain of 0.02%, closing at 96.64 index points.
