Way of the Cross: Christians asked to forgive

Members of St. Patrick's Catholic Parish-Madera in Soroti city have urged fellow Christians across the country to make forgiveness a central tenet of their lives.

This message echoed during a ten-kilometre Walk of the Way of the Cross, led by Seminarian Vincent Odungul, which commenced from Otucopi trading centre and concluded at the parish. 

Daniel Baale, a parishioner, highlighted the importance of prioritising forgiveness and remaining steadfast in faith, even when faced with life's challenges. He noted that “forgiveness is essential and should be embraced by all.” 

Mary Awayo, another participant, reflected on the lessons of the Walk, stating, “The Way of the Cross teaches us the importance of forgiving others, just as Christ has forgiven us.” 

Onukur Moses Clover, the coordinator of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal at St. Patrick's Madera, remarked that the Christian journey is fraught with difficulties. He affirmed, “The path of a Christian may be narrow and filled with thorns, but Christ embodies the way, the truth, and the life.” 

Rev. Sr. Happy Fielda from St. Patrick's emphasised that the Way of the Cross signifies a shared journey of suffering alongside Christ, reminding the faithful that “as Christians, we must bear our crosses together.” 

Maculate Ocuu, another member of the congregation, stressed the importance of persistent prayer and the need to let go of past mistakes. 

In a related note, Sebastiano Obula, chairperson of the Parish Council at St. Patrick's Catholic Parish-Madera, called on the government to enhance security in busy areas across Uganda, especially as Christians celebrate the conclusion of Lent. 

Obula applauded the government for enacting laws that align with biblical principles, fostering a community that reflects Christian values.
