US ambassador pays courtesy visit to Supreme Mufti

It was joy as the US ambassador to Uganda William Popp paid a courtesy visit to the office of the Supreme Mufti at Kibuli in Kampala on Monday, July 1, 2024.
Popp was received by the Supreme Mufti Sheikh Muhammad Shaban Galabuzi at the headquarters of the parallel Muslim leadership in Uganda. They later engaged in a closed-door meeting for close to two hours.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Popp revealed that during the closed meeting, they discussed religious tolerance, education, and creating jobs for the Muslim youth by the US political office in the country among others.
“It has been a privilege for me this morning to come and visit the Supreme Mufti to share from the US experience. We are looking forward to the continued dialogue with the team leaders to work for the development of the Ugandan people,” Popp said.
On his part, Galabuzi disclosed that under the arrangement of promotion of religious tolerance, they have agreed to have an exchange program that will see Ugandan sheikhs go to the US for exploration.
“We are grateful for this visit and we feel humbled to host the US ambassador. We have discussed a lot but most importantly we have agreed to have an exchange program that will see Ugandan sheikhs go to the US for exploration,” Galabuzi said.
Galabuzi has just returned from the US where he said he carried out several activities including installing leaders subscribing to his office.
Dr Muhammad Musoke Kiggundu, the director of communication and research in the office of the Supreme Mufti said the US ambassador’s visit was fruitful and the Muslim community will benefit from it.
“We have been honoured to receive the US ambassador to Uganda and it has been very fruitful,” Kiggundu said.
