The leadership of the Uganda North American Association (UNAA) believes the redevelopment of Nakivubo Stadium will create opportunities for Uganda at an international level.

The UNAA delegation led by the group vice-chairperson, Charles Muvawala toured the facility on Saturday.

While leading the US-based delegation on a guided tour of the stadium, businessman Ham Kiggundu, the investor behind the project told the team that on completion, the stadium will host over 35,000 people.

“We are currently in the second phase with the capacity of over 20,000 people, but after completion in our third and final stage, the facility will be able to accommodate 35,000 people,” he said.

In line with the government's priority of creating jobs for young people, Kiggundu disclosed that he currently employs 10,000 people directly and many more others indirectly.

After the stadium tour, Kiggundu and the UNAA delegation held a closed door meeting to harmonise on the possibility of a partnership.

Muvawala commended Kiggundu - the brain behind a chain of multi-billion businesses under HAM Enterprises, for being a forward thinker and development driven.

“The stadium stands as a testament to the dedication and financial support provided by Kiggundu’s enterprise and our closed door meeting underscored a shared commitment to propelling the nation’s prosperity through strategic business ventures,” he said.

Muvawala added; “The job done here is truly commendable, and I must appreciate Hajji Hamis Kiggundu for his amazing heart and commitment to Uganda.”

He said, “Part of my delegation is Mr. Brian Kayongo, CEO of Concept Real Estates. Kayongo’s presence adds another layer to the collaborative efforts, emphasizing the importance of partnerships in advancing the real estate sector.

His expertise and insights complemented the discussions, enriching the dialogue on potential opportunities for investment.”

Apart from football which is the main activity for the stadium, other sports like basketball, boxing, volleyball, pool, table tennis, and netball are also catered for inside the multi-purpose stadium which is expected to be commissioned by President Yoweri Museveni.

Nakivubo has different and unique amenities like cinema halls, restaurants, cafeterias, VIP boxes, VVIP and executive boxes. The executive boxes come with extra amenities like self-contained lavatories, sofa sets, a conference room and a resting area.
