KAMPALA - Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) has donated 200 Android tablets to Muslim clerics across the country in a move aimed at supporting them in embracing digital technology.
According to Mufti Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, the distribution of tablets will help streamline official communication, enhance coordination during official duties, and advance the Muslim council's broader technological transformation.
The beneficiaries include regional assistants to the Mufti for East and West Buganda, regional secretaries, members of the Majlis Al-Ulama, representatives of the Shura and Advisory Council, and district Kadhis.
While handing over the tablets to beneficiaries at Old Kampala mosque on Wednesday (October 14), Mubaje urged leaders to embrace the new digital technology in order to ease their work.
"The tablets are intended to equip Muslim leaders with skills and tools needed to access and manage knowledge in an increasingly digital world," he said.
Mubaje urged the beneficiaries to use the devices to improve communication, conduct research and store vital Muslim documents.
“We urge you to put them to proper use to strengthen communication, do more research and store all kinds of data and other useful information," he said.
UMSC Secretary General Haji Abbas Muluubya Ssekyanzi said Muslim leaders should embrace the technology for community services, mosques and charity support.
“The tablets are intended to integrate directly with the newly developed 'UMSC 360 degrees ecosystem'. This unified national platform is key to religious, financial and administrative operations in a transparent digital workspace," Ssekyanzi said.
