ULGA president challenges local leaders to deliver on citizens’ expectations

The Uganda Local Government Association (ULGA) vice-president for the central region, Ibrahim Kitatta, has appealed to newly elected local government leaders to serve Ugandans diligently and prioritise effective service delivery.
During a meeting held at Mariaflo Hotel in Masaka last week, Kitatta told the leaders during a workshop that the campaign period was over and their focus should now shift to improving services for Ugandans.
"My fellow leaders, the campaign trail is behind us. The hard work of governance, service delivery, and economic transformation begins today," Kitatta said, adding that they need to re-ignite the economic embers of their districts, municipalities, and cities.
"Together, let us refocus decentralisation and drive Uganda’s socio-economic transformation," Kitatta said.
Kitatta told the leaders that their victory was not just a personal achievement but a profound vote of confidence from the citizens of Uganda, who had entrusted them with the responsibility of leading them into a new era of development.

"As we gather here across our diverse and beautiful region, we are united by a singular, powerful mission: to breathe fresh life into the promise of decentralisation," Kitatta said.
He urged the leaders to be the voice of the voiceless, deliver services to local communities, remain responsive and uphold accountability.
Kitatta further appealed to the leaders to support the association by ensuring payment of subscriptions and participating in its activities.
The ULGA secretary general, Richard Okuku, used the same platform to call upon the new leaders to embrace teamwork between political and technical wings in order to promote agro-industrialisation, tourism, mineral development, science and technology, and achieve the Ten-Fold growth strategy as outlined in the President's strategic direction.
