ARUA - The former Egyptian Ambassador Richard Laus Angualia died in a head-on collision on Arua-Terego road on Tuesday afternoon, Uganda Police Force has confirmed.
At the time of the crash, he was riding on a Bajaj motorcycle heading to his farm in Terego as he was involved in a road crash.
The Westnile Police spokesperson, Collins Asea, confirmed the incident, saying the Ambassador was indeed involved in the crash.
“Ambassador Angualia was involved in an accident and he died on spot in a crash that also claimed the unnamed cyclist whom he had reportedly hired for a ride,” he said.
Angualia, who in 2011 was appointed ambassador to Egypt based in Cairo, in 2015 retired from foreign service to join active politics when he contested as a member of Parliament Maracha East, but lost.
Recently, he also contested for LC5 Chairperson in Maracha district but lost in the NRM primaries.
Who was Angualia
He studied at Liria Primary School, Terego, then went to St. Joseph's College, Ombaci.
He then joined Makerere University, where he stood as a Guild president, though he didn't succeed.
He has worked in many places and was a Town Clerk in the then Arua municipal before joining the Ministry of Water.
He worked as Uganda's ambassador to Egypt and the Middle East.
Recently, he was working with Kyambogo University as a lecturer and pursuing his doctorate at Uganda Management Institute (UMI).

“It is with profound sorrow and deep sympathy that we extend our heartfelt condolences to the family, relatives, and friends of the Late His Excellency Ambassador Angualia Laus, who tragically lost his life in a fatal motor accident near Abi ZARDI in Arua City while on his way to Maracha," said Assistant RDC Maracha Collins Dramani on Tuesday evening
He described Ambassador Angualia as a highly respected and patriotic son of Uganda.
“As a former diplomat and senior cadre of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), he dedicated his life to the service of this nation and to the growth and transformation of our party, particularly in Maracha District,” he added that he was a man of great wisdom, humility, and unwavering commitment to the core principles of the NRM.
