Uganda strengthens ties with Brazil as Ambassador Kakonge presents letters of credence

Uganda's Ambassador to the United States, Robie Kakonge, has officially assumed her additional role as the Republic of Uganda's Non-Resident Ambassador to the Federative Republic of Brazil.
On Wednesday, July 8, Kakonge presented her Letters of Credence to His Excellency President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva during a formal ceremony at the Itamaraty Palace in Brasília.
Based in Washington, D.C., Kakonge will oversee Uganda's diplomatic engagement with Brazil while continuing to serve as Uganda's Ambassador to the United States.

Speaking after the ceremony, Ambassador Kakonge reaffirmed her commitment to strengthening the longstanding friendship between Uganda and Brazil.
"It is an honour to present my Letters of Credence to His Excellency President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, formally assuming my role as the Non-Resident Ambassador of the Republic of Uganda to the Federative Republic of Brazil. I look forward to working closely with our Brazilian partners to further strengthen the longstanding friendship and cooperation between our two countries," she said.

Speaking after the ceremony, Ambassador Kakonge reaffirmed her commitment to strengthening the longstanding friendship between Uganda and Brazil.
"It is an honour to present my Letters of Credence to His Excellency President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, formally assuming my role as the Non-Resident Ambassador of the Republic of Uganda to the Federative Republic of Brazil. I look forward to working closely with our Brazilian partners to further strengthen the longstanding friendship and cooperation between our two countries," she said.
The visit also yielded tangible outcomes aimed at deepening bilateral cooperation. Brazil offered scholarships for Ugandan students to pursue technical and vocational training in a move expected to strengthen skills development and human capital in Uganda. The initiative is expected to create new opportunities for knowledge transfer in areas critical to Uganda's economic transformation.
During her visit, Ambassador Kakonge also toured Embrapa (Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation), one of the world's leading agricultural research institutions. Discussions focused on opportunities for collaboration in agricultural research, innovation, and technology transfer, particularly in developing climate-resilient farming systems.
Climate adaptation emerged as another key area of cooperation, with Uganda and Brazil exploring potential partnerships in research, sustainable agriculture, and strategies to help farmers adapt to the growing impacts of climate change. The proposed collaboration would leverage Brazil's internationally recognised expertise in tropical agriculture to support Uganda's agricultural modernisation and food security objectives.
Uganda and Brazil have maintained cordial diplomatic relations over the years, with cooperation spanning agriculture, trade, investment, education, health, and South-South cooperation.
Ambassador Kakonge's accreditation is expected to inject new momentum into the partnership, advancing shared priorities and opening new avenues for collaboration that benefit both countries.
