Both the men and the women's rugby sevens national teams won gold in the just concluded 13th African Games in Accra, Ghana.

On Thursday evening, each team was rewarded with sh50m from their sponsor Nile Special at a dinner at Velocity in Kyanja, a Kampala suburb.

The Government Chief whip Hamson Obua, Buganda Prince David Wasajja, and Uganda Olympic Committee president Dr. Donald Rukare all attended the dinner.

Obua cautioned the players on discipline and promised more government funding.

"Government will always support those federations, Unions, and Associations that do perform, continue to work hard, and also be disciplined, success will come," Obua noted.

Nile Breweries head of trade and marketing Darwin Majok encouraged players to continue putting in the hard work if they want to see success every season.

"What you did in Accra, it didn't just come by chance, it is because you put in the shift, gold is not won on a silver plate," Majok said.

The Rugby Cranes 7s won gold after winning all six games played collecting 18 points in a round-robin format.

Lady Rugby Cranes 7s also finished unbeaten with 12 points from the four games played.

At the 13th African Games, Uganda finished thirteen with 20 medals.

Four Golds where two came from rugby, four Silvers, and 10 Bronze.

The two teams now turn focus to the HSBC Challengers Series last round set for 17th-19th May.

The women will be in Warsaw, Poland with a chance of qualifying for the final tournament in Madrid.

The men will be in Munich, Germany but with almost no chance of qualifying for the final tournament.
