Crime, in Gulu City, took a dramatic turn on Friday when two women were arrested by the police, suspected of impersonation with the intent to defraud.
David Ongom Mudong, the Aswa West Police Spokesperson, identified the two suspects as Susan Acam, 42, of Najjera in Kampala and Suzan Aguti, 50, a resident of Bukasa also in Kampala.
By Saturday morning, they remained held at Gulu Central Business Police Division on charges of alleged impersonation to defraud.
Mudong said the duo are self-proclaimed operatives attached to the State House, Kampala and the Internal Security Organisation (ISO), after thorough scrutiny and interrogations.
"They were apprehended at the office of the Deputy Regional Police Commander, Aswa West, after they presented themselves asking for fuel and food items, claiming they are beneficiaries of those supplies from the Police", remarked Mudong.
The PRO further revealed that when they were further asked to present identification documents, they gave forged ones and a police form 18 (Bond) from Lira Central Police Station (CPS) was recovered from them, indicating they were released on the same charges last month.
Mudong added that further information obtained indicates that the duo masquerade in the areas of Gulu and Lira Cities, defrauding people and obtaining goods by false pretence.
"Their case file is being built before submission to the Resident State Attorney for legal guidance”, said Mudong, urging the members of the public who could have fallen victim to the two suspects to cross-check with Gulu CPS.
