Two Oyam fishermen drown in River Nile

Locals of Juma Parish, Kamdini Sub–County in Oyam District have commenced the search for the bodies of two fishermen who drowned in the River Nile on Wednesday, April 23, morning.

Yusuf Obong and Innocent Opio, all residents of Nora Village in Kamdini Sub–County met their fate after their boat capsized while fishing.

They had reportedly gone to fish with two others who remained on the shores of the river and they watched how the duo was swept away by the violent water.

Moses Oyepa, the Chairman of Nora Village in Juma Parish revealed that the search by the locals, and the Uganda Wildlife Authority officials commenced Thursday after the case of drowning was reported to police in Kamdini Police Station under SD Ref 09/24/04/2025.

Meanwhile, Richard Ekuka, the Chairman of Dii-cunyi Village in Kamdini Sub–County revealed that 13 fishermen have so far drowned in the River Nile in the last 16 months.

He appealed to fishermen to wear protective gear whenever on the water and that they should be cautious of the water levels and speed.
