Residents of Oyam South County in Oyam District now have every reason to smile after gaining access to safe and clean water, ending nearly two decades of depending on contaminated sources.

This follows the rehabilitation of six boreholes, repaired with the support of Patrick Ogwang Obura, the NRM flag bearer for Oyam South Constituency, at a cost of shillings 15 million.

For years, communities had been forced to collect water from open wells, sharing it with animals and exposing families to waterborne diseases.

James Odongo Olwa, a resident of Te-Nam Cell in Kamdini Town Council, expressed gratitude, saying the restored boreholes brought long-awaited relief after years of suffering without safe water.

The repaired boreholes are located in six villages: Alyec B in Aber, Pukica in Kamdini sub-county, Te-Tochi in Kamdini Town Council, Abang Imalo in Myene sub-county, and Aculbanya and Opati Wards in Minakulu Town Council.

These interventions are expected to improve hygiene and reduce the risk of disease outbreaks.

Obura acknowledged the urgent need for clean water in the area, stressing that his support went beyond politics.

He further emphasised the need for drilling new boreholes and empowering communities to improve their livelihoods.

He also urged residents to vote for visionary leaders who will continue to deliver services beyond politics.
