Two killed, 10 injured in Nakasongola crash
The victims were travelling in a silver Fuso truck from Amolatar towards Irrimba Market in Lwabyata when the driver reportedly lost control at Lwakataba Village.

Two people died on the spot, and 10 others sustained injuries when a Fuso truck carrying market vendors overturned in Nakasongola District on Wednesday, August 12, 2026.
The crash occurred on Wednesday at about 12:30pm along the Lwabyata–Lwampanga (Zengebe) road in Lwakataba village.
Sam Twineamazima, the Savannah Region Police spokesperson, identified the deceased as Isaac Kirabo, 26, a resident of Nabwita Village, Lwampanga Sub-county, Nakasongola District, and Junior Kabugo, 25, a resident of Kiyeje, Luweero Town Council.
The 10 injured passengers are; Annet Naiga, 40; Annet Letalo, 38; Marvin Ndaula, 21; Collins Amanya, 25; Robert Sebwami, 31; Jesca Nalunkuma, 40; Robert Kakooza, 38; Denis Ssaka, 21; Ivan Katamba, 36; and Prescovia Nakabiira, 45.
“The motor vehicle lost control and overturned, killing two passengers at the scene and leaving several others with serious and minor injuries,” Twineamazima said.
Twineamazima said the injured were rushed to Nakasongola Health Centre IV, where they are receiving treatment.
"Traffic police officers responded to the scene, which was visited and documented. Witness statements have also been recorded as investigations continue to establish the exact cause of the crash," he said.
The bodies of the deceased were conveyed to Nakasongola Mortuary pending postmortem examinations, while the Fuso truck was towed to the Nakasongola police parking yard.
Twineamazima conveyed condolences to the families of the deceased and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
The crash comes in the wake of another fatal accident in which two people died, and several others were left nursing critical injuries after a commuter taxi crashed at Kakira Junction along the Jinja-Iganga Highway on Wednesday (August 5).
Earlier on the night of August 3, 2026, another 14 people were killed in a road crash at Lwera swamp in Kalungu district along the Kampala-Masaka Highway.
The crash, which occurred at around 11:00pm at Kamunga trading centre, involved a Toyota Hiace taxi, registration number UA 662AQ, and a Sino truck, registration number UBS 040F, which was transporting sand.
While releasing the 2025 annual traffic statistics in April this year, Traffic and Safety Directorate director at the Uganda Police Force, Lawrence Niwabiine, said a total of 26,044 road traffic crashes were reported in 2025, compared to 25,107 crashes recorded in 2024, representing an increase of 3.7%.
Niwabiine said that of the 26,044 crashes, 4,602 were fatal, meaning that one or more lives were lost, while 13,563 were serious and 7,879 were minor.
