Two injured as Crane collapses at construction site in Ggaba

KAMPALA - Kampala Metropolitan Police on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, through the territorial police at Kabalagala Police Division, is investigating an incident in which two workers were seriously injured after a Crane collapsed at a construction site in Mission Zone, Ggaba Parish, Makindye Division, Kampala.
Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire said the incident occurred on Tuesday at about 11:30am while workers were constructing a six-storey apartment building.
“The workers were reportedly mixing concrete and loading it onto the Crane when it broke from the sixth floor and fell. The collapse damaged part of the building, including a balcony, and two workers on the fifth floor fell with it,” Owoyesigyire said.
He identified the victims as James Baluku and Silver Muhima, both adult males, who sustained serious injuries.
Owoyesigyire, however, did not reveal the magnitude of the injuries the two sustained.
“They were taken to Wentz Hospital and later referred to Mengo Hospital for further treatment,” Owoyesigyire added.

He said police visited and examined the scene, documented it, recovered and exhibited the damaged Crane, and collected debris samples for laboratory analysis.
“Statements have been recorded from witnesses, including workers at the site, and the National Building Review Board has been informed. Police are also following up on the victims’ condition and facilitating their medical examinations,” he stated.
The case, Owoyesigyire said, had been registered at Kabalagala Police Station as a rash and negligent act causing injuries.
“No arrest has been made. Investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances of the incident and determine responsibility,” Owoyesigyire noted.
“Statements have been recorded from witnesses, including workers at the site, and the National Building Review Board has been informed. Police are also following up on the victims’ condition and facilitating their medical examinations,” he stated.
