LWENGO - Two people travelling on a motorcycle, Bajaj Boxer registration number UDW 564V, were confirmed dead on Saturday (February 28) following a collision with motor vehicle number UA079DC, a Toyota Hiace, on the Masaka-Mbarara highway.
Kasirye Twaha, the public relations officer for Greater Masaka Police, said the fatal collision occurred at Kiteesa village, Lwengo district, on the Masaka-Mbarara highway on February 27, 2026, at 7:00 pm.
"The rider (Moses) died on the spot, while Aine Lukyamuzi, a 15-year-old passenger on a motorcycle, died at Mbarara Hospital.
Six motor vehicle occupants got injured, including Good Mwesigwa, 63 years a retired senior commissioner of police; Precious Kwesiga, a driver; Ivan Muhumuza, 6 years old; Arisha Noel, 10 years old; Jackson Muhereza, 4 years old; and Mugabirwe Jonathan 2-year old.
He attributed the cause to reckless driving.
"It's alleged that the rider suddenly turned off to the right side without considering the safety of the road and, in the process, was knocked by the speeding Toyota Hiace that later overturned and injured the occupants," Kasirye added.
He said the bodies of the deceased were conveyed to Masaka Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for postmortem, while the wreckage of the motor vehicle was taken to Kyazanga Police Station pending inspection.
"The injured ones evacuated to Kampala after getting first aid from Kyazanga Joint Clinic," Kasirye added, saying investigations into what caused the accident continue.
