Tragedy befell residents of Kamonkoli ‘B’ Cell in Kamonkoli Town Council, Budaka district, when an eucalyptus tree that was being cut fell and crashed a nine-year-old boy to death.
The deceased, identified as Stuart Musede, a Primary Two pupil at Kamonkoli Mixed Primary School, had reportedly gone with other children to collect firewood when a falling tree that was being cut by loggers struck him, killing him instantly.
The incident occurred on October 16, 2026, at about 11:00am in Kamonkoli ‘B’ Cell, Kamonkoli Town Council, where two chainsaw operators were cutting down eucalyptus trees.
Police identified the loggers as Siraji Muloki and Kenneth Were, who were cutting the trees belonging to businessman Swaibu Nduga.
According to Bukedi North regional police spokesperson Wilfred Kyempasa, "preliminary findings indicate that the operators failed to take precautionary measures to keep people away from the area where the trees were being felled."
Police opened a case of causing death by a rash and negligent act under Budaka CRB 518/26.
A homicide team together with Scene of Crime Officer and other personnel, visited and documented the scene.
"The boy’s body was taken to Budaka Health Centre IV for further examination as investigations continue," Kyempasa said.
Kyempasa warned tree cutters against endangering lives through careless logging. He urged people involved in tree felling and other potentially dangerous activities to cordon off work areas and keep bystanders, particularly children, at a safe distance to prevent avoidable deaths.
