Tooro Supreme Council endorses Kijanangoma, CDF Kainerugaba prays for new king

FORT PORTAL - Charles Kamurasi, the Tooro Kingdom Musuuga (head of the ruling Babiito Royal clan), has declared Crown Prince Edward Rukidi Kijanangoma Nyabongo I the new king of Tooro.
Kamurasi made the declaration on Tuesday, September 15, during a sitting of the Tooro Kingdom Supreme Council, the kingdom’s top organ, at Mucwa headquarters in Fort Portal City.
The declaration now gives the Babiito Royal clan the mandate to proceed with preparations for the coronation of the new king.
Kamurasi said, “I want to inform the people of Toro and Uganda that we buried our late king (Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV) in great honour. Tooro Kingdom cannot remain like that without a king. The new king of Toro is there.”
He said the kingdom would continue following its cultural norms while observing the Constitution of Uganda.
“Even if the Attorney General is giving legal advice to the President (Yoweri Museveni), we shall continue to follow our cultural norms while following the Ugandan Constitution,” he said.
Kijanamgoma's selection was first announced last Thursday by Monsignor Isaiah Mayombo, surrounded by over 20 elders including Kamurasi.
Coronation preparations
Kamurasi said the date for the coronation would be announced in due course, adding that preparations were already underway.
“The day for the coronation will be announced any time. Even if they take us to court, we shall go there. Right now we are preparing for the coronation,” he said.
He thanked the people of Tooro, President Museveni and other mourners for supporting the kingdom during the burial of the late king.
“I want to thank you all for coming. This meeting is historical. I want to thank the people of Toro and the President who was with us as we buried our late king,” Kamurasi said.

In a post on the CDF's social media, X reads:
My fellow Ugandans, the new Omukama of Tooro is His Majesty Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I.
Long may he reign. God bless him always. God bless Tooro.
The Bachwezi have approved him.

And I don't want to hear of court cases. I want to hear of a Coronation date.
