Tight school health rules after malaria deaths

“On June 17, her body’s immune system weakened. Malaria attacked and damaged her organs, including her kidney, requiring dialysis. Even if she had survived, she was going to need a kidney,” he said. Kimuli explained that, despite intensive care, dialysis and blood transfusions, Mulungi died from respiratory failure after bleeding into her lungs, triggered by severe inflammation caused by malaria.

Mulungi’s death follows those of three other learners from Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area schools.
