Uganda Police Force detectives in Matugga have recovered a three-year-old girl who had allegedly been kidnapped from her home in Matugga. Two male suspects linked to the abduction have been arrested.

It is alleged that on Sunday, March 8, 2026, at about noon, the child went to play with friends in the neighbourhood but did not return home.

Hunt for her whereabouts proved futile, prompting the mother to report her disappearance to Matugga Police Station.

Rachael Kawala, the deputy spokesperson of Kampala metropolitan, has revealed that the kidnappers had demanded shillings 40 million ransom from the family of their victim.

Selwanja Godfrey and Ntege Shakib have since been detained in connection with the kidnapping.

"At about 1800 hours, the victim’s grandmother received a WhatsApp message containing a photograph of the child, with the sender demanding shillings 40 million as ransom for her release," she stated in a post on social media X.

It is reported that a few days after her disappearance, the suspects were nabbed and the child recovered from Ntege's home in Kayilira Village, Buwambo Ward, Gombe Division in Wakiso District.

The child was immediately rushed by the police task team for medical examination and attention.
