Police have arrested three students following a violent strike that resulted in extensive destruction of property at Owafa Secondary School in Terego District.
Addressing journalists at Police Headquarters in Naguru today (June 22, 2026), police spokesperson Rusoke Kituuma said officers responded to the unrest at the Secondary School on the night of June 21.
According to police, a group of students engaged in acts of vandalism that left significant damage to school property.
“They destroyed computers in the computer laboratory, damaged glass panels, fans and other school property,” Kituuma said.
Police intervened and restored calm before engaging both students and school administrators in discussions aimed at resolving the dispute.
“We managed to bring the situation under control and normalcy was restored,” he said.
Following investigations, police arrested three students suspected of playing a lead role in the violence.
Kituuma condemned the destruction of property and urged students to use established channels to resolve grievances.

“That is why schools have student leadership structures. Students should escalate their concerns through those mechanisms rather than resorting to violence,” he said.
He warned that criminal acts would attract legal consequences regardless of a person’s age.
“Whether you are young or old, you remain accountable for your criminal actions,” Kituuma said.
The police spokesperson criticised some school administrators for ignoring warning signs that could have prevented the unrest.
“There were red flags; the students had grievances. Unfortunately, some administrators chose to ignore them,” he said.
Kituuma urged school managers to actively engage students and address concerns before they escalate into violence.
