Police on Saturday (July 4) said they had arrested three police officers attached to Butambala Police Station in Butambala district over the fatal shooting of a coffee dealer.
The deceased was identified as Musa Katerega, who was working as a machine operator at Abbarci Industries Ltd, an integrated coffee value addition chain.
Police identified the three suspects as Police Constables Nicholas Mujuni and Dan Alex Welikhe, and Corporal Bosco Foste.
“The Territorial Police in Katonga Region has intensified investigations into a tragic shooting incident that claimed the life of Katerega. The incident occurred at Kanoni Cell, Kanoni Town Council, Gomba district, on July 1, 2026, at approximately 4:00 pm," said the statement.
Police said preliminary investigations indicate that on the day of the incident, officials from the Uganda Coffee Development Authority (UCDA), accompanied by an armed security team and police officers, visited Abbarci Industries Ltd to conduct an inspection of the coffee processing facility.
The inspection team was reportedly led by an official identified as Mathias, who was known to the acting factory manager and accountant, Zalika Nalubega.
“Video footage that has since been obtained by investigators indicates that a scuffle occurred among some of the individuals present shortly before the fatal shooting," Police said.
"Investigations are currently focused on establishing the circumstances that led to the altercation and determining how it culminated in the shooting that claimed the life of Katerega."
Police noted that the suspects remain in custody and will be produced before the courts of law as investigations continue.
