In a unified response, Teso Members of Parliament (MPs) under the Teso Parliamentary Group (TPG) have reached out to President Yoweri Museveni and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, calling for an amicable resolution of issues involving former deputy chief of defence forces Lt. Gen. Peter Elwelu.
Elwelu was taken into custody by security personnel in Soroti city on the evening of November 2, with news of his arrest causing anxiety in Teso sub-region.

In an emergency TPG meeting convened in Kampala on November 4, 2026, the MPs expressed deep concern over the anxiety gripping the Teso sub-region following Elwelu's arrest.
They highlighted the importance of treating the matter with the attention it deserves, noting that Elwelu has a longstanding reputation as a trustworthy and dedicated military leader, deeply respected for his commitment to the Government and the Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF).
Simon Peter Opolot Okwalinga, the TPG chairperson, in a statement said; "Teso MPs believe that the matter must be addressed with fairness and care, considering its potential impact on public trust, social cohesion, and the relationship between the Teso community, the Government, and the UPDF."
The MPs, therefore, appealed for the timely intervention of President Museveni and the Chief of Defence Forces (Muhoozi) to resolve the matter amicably in the interest of national unity.
Opolot, who also serves as the MP for Kanyumu County in Kumi District, noted that the TPG would greatly welcome an opportunity to meet with the President or the Chief of Defence Forces.
The MPs encouraged the people of Teso to remain calm, exercise restraint, and maintain peace as they place their trust in the leadership of the government and UPDF to address the situation.
