The Iteso Cultural Union has been tasked with formulating strict cultural and traditional laws to prohibit the indiscriminate cutting down of trees by communities.

Pascal Amuriat, the former Soroti East Division MP candidate, says the rate at which people are cutting down trees is unregulated, which is why cultural institutions must step in to help save the environment.

He explains that if cultural institutions leave this responsibility solely to the government, achieving environmental conservation goals will take decades.

Amuriat also calls on the community to take action in preserving the environment to mitigate climate change.

Meanwhile, Andrew Ocole, the Prime Minister of the Iteso Cultural Union, says they do not condone the cutting down of trees such as tamarind, mango, and shea nut.

He calls on the community to protect the few remaining trees and to plant more.
