BUTAMBALA — Muhammad Muwanga Kivumbi, the Butambala Constituency Member of Parliament and National Unity Platform Deputy President, has reappeared before the Butambala Chief Magistrate Court for further mention of his terrorism charges.
Earlier today, Tuesday, March 10, security remained tight at court and on all roads leading to the court premises, while anyone approaching the courtrooms had to present their particulars before they were allowed to access.
Muwanga Kivumbi is charged along with 24 others on terrorism charges stemming from the alleged violent incidents that happened in Kibibi and Gombe Town Councils on January 15, 2026, during the general elections.
The accused are represented by Senior lawyer, Erias Lukwago, Medard Lubega Ssegona, Samuel Muyizi Mulindwa, Kenneth Paul Kakande and Asuman Basalilwa, while the state legal team is headed by the assistant director of public prosecutions, Rachael Bikhole.
Muwanga's legal team had previously filed an application regarding human rights violations, the legality of the investigations, alleging the accused was prosecuted without taking a statement from him and denying him access to his lawyers upon arrest
The defence team also wanted the Magistrate to suspend the court process and terminate proceedings, saying there was a breach of the law in the proceedings, but the court, on February 17, this year, dismissed the application.
