A 19-year-old first-time mother, Milly Mutonyi, allegedly threw her day-old baby into a pit-latrine in Kayunga district, prompting a swift response from the Police fire and rescue team.

According to Police spokesperson Fred Enanga, Mutonyi, currently in Police custody, confessed that her actions were motivated by feelings of neglect from her husband, Alex Senyonjo.

The baby, miraculously still alive, was rescued from the pit-latrine and is currently receiving medical care at Kayunga Hospital, albeit with injuries.

Enanga emphasized the importance of seeking assistance from baby homes and support services instead of resorting to such drastic measures.

He urged women facing similar challenges to reach out to the various organisations across the country dedicated to assisting mothers and infants in need.

As investigations continue, authorities are working diligently to trace the whereabouts of the baby's father, Senyonjo, to shed light on the circumstances leading up to this tragic event.

Since January five similar incidents have been reported in Bukoloto, Busana and Nazigo all in Kayunga district.
