Archbishop David Livingston Makumbi, the elder brother of Pastor Robert Kayanja of Miracle Centre Cathedral and Archbishop John Ssentamu is dead.

Makumbi passed on May 2, 2024, in the United States where he was staying.

Announcing his death, his son Ronald Emmy Nyanzi said, “It is with a heavy heart the Makumbi family announces the passing of our dear father, Arch Bishop Makumbi. We are comforted and grateful for the amazing years he had with us here on earth--a life well lived. We will miss him so much but we are encouraged to know that the Bible says, "To be absent in body, is to be present with God." He loved God and served Him for all his days.”

He further said, “We as a family now have this beautiful privilege to live out his messages and values. What an honor to be a part of his incredible legacy. To God be all the glory.”

By press time the family had not yet released his burial programme but said, “At the moment, the family is gathering at 125 Orleans Street Lowell MA 0850.”

Several people condoled with the Makumbi family. State Minister for Youth and Children Affairs, Balaam Barugahare, took to X to condole with the family.

“Pastor Kayanja, I am sorry to hear of the loss of your big brother, Most Rev Arch Bishop Livingstone Makumbi. May the Good Lord bless you and keep you and give you inner peace as you face this trying time,” Barugahare said.

Pastor Kayanja in a post shared on his X-platform said, “Please pray for his immediate family. There will be a condolence book signing at the Miracle Center Cathedral lounge daily from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm. Relatives and friends are informed.”

Makumbi started as a pastor at Prayer Mountain after being inspired by his late grandfather Jeremia Gyegenda. He then left the country and went to the US where he has been ministering.
