Police in Pallisa district are holding a 17-year-old boy accused of aggravated defilement of a seven-year-old girl.

The suspect, identified as Emmanuel Olupot, a resident of Rweta A cell, Kagwese ward, was arrested on September 5, 2025.

The victim (names withheld) had been sent to buy biscuits worth sh200 when she encountered the suspect, who allegedly lured her into a bathroom, covered her mouth, and assaulted her.

Witnesses said the teenager used a polythene bag and sacks in a failed attempt to conceal the act.

Police said the girl managed to raise an alarm that attracted a shopkeeper, identified as Kenneth, who caught the suspect in the act.

He was immediately apprehended and taken to the victim’s home, where she narrated the ordeal to her mother, Gimbo Halima, who later reported the matter to Pallisa Central Police Station.

Bukedi North regional police spokesperson Wilfred Kyempasa confirmed that a case of aggravated defilement was opened and medical examinations were conducted.

“The victim’s hymen was torn and fresh bruises were observed. Swabs were extracted for further forensic analysis, and the suspect’s underwear has been recovered as evidence,” Kyempasa said.

Statements from key witnesses have been recorded, and the suspect’s statement taken under caution.

Police say Olupot will be charged in court once the investigations are complete.
