PALISA - Police in Pallisa district are hunting for a man accused of defiling a 12-year-old girl who was attacked on her way home from a party in Abatat village, Kameke Sub-county, on the night of August 28, 2025.
The victim, identified (names withheld), had been at a local celebration with her siblings.
Left alone after midnight, she attempted to walk home but was waylaid by a stranger who snatched her torch, dragged her into nearby bushes, and sexually assaulted her before fleeing.
She later narrated the ordeal to her mother, Esther Mong, who reported the case to the Police.
Medical examination confirmed fresh injuries and a torn hymen, while DNA samples were collected, including fingernail scrapings, since the victim reported scratching her attacker. Swabs were also preserved for analysis.
Wilfred Kyempasa, the Bukedi North Regional Police Spokesperson, confirmed the findings.
“We have medically verified that the child was sexually abused. Our teams are following strong leads, including the victim’s recognition of the suspect’s voice. The suspect will be arrested and brought to justice,” he stated.
Police have preserved the crime scene for forensic examination and will deploy a canine unit. Authorities also reminded parents to supervise children’s night movements to prevent similar tragedies.
