KAMPALA - A 25-year-old taxi driver has been convicted by the General Court Martial for unlawfully wearing a military uniform.

Isa Asimwe, a resident of Bulenga in Wakiso district, appeared before the General Court Martial, chaired by Brig. Gen. Richard Tukacungurwa, where he pleaded guilty to the charge of unauthorised wearing of military uniforms, contrary to Section 162 of the amended Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) Act.

The court heard that on January 14, 2026, Asimwe was found wearing military fatigues comprising trousers, a hat and jungle boots at Bugweri Town Council in Bugweri district.

According to the prosecution, led by Lt Regina Nanzaala, Asimwe had gone with his colleagues to attend a meeting at the residence of the resident district commissioner (RDC) of Bugweri.

While there, an intelligence officer from Magamaga Barracks spotted him wearing a half-combat uniform and approached him for an explanation.

The prosecution told the court that Asimwe admitted he was a civilian and explained that the military clothing belonged to one Nathan Munumbya.

When the brief facts were read to him, Asimwe admitted the allegations

“I plead guilty to the brief facts,” he told the court.

The court subsequently convicted him on his own plea of guilty.

The case was adjourned to November 10, 2026, for the presentation of his antecedents and mitigation. Asimwe was further remanded until then.
