The State House Anti-Corruption Unit has arrested a suspected notorious land fraudster in Wakiso district over allegations of malicious damage to property.

Charles Kyagaba is alleged to have connived with three others still at large and unlawfully destroyed a house belonging to an old woman.

The victim is a tenant on land belonging to the Catholic Church in Ziru, Entebbe Municipality.

Kyagaba was arrested on Monday and later produced before the Entebbe Chief Magistrate, Stella Maris Amabilis on charges of malicious damage to property.

Benon Kabuusu and another two only identified as Komakech and Wasswa are the other suspects.

Together with Kyabaga, the suspects allegedly destroyed Margaret Kyomuhangi's house, claiming that she had built it on his [Kyagaba's] land.

It is further alleged that Kyagaba has been involved in many fraudulent land transactions in the areas of Entebbe using forged court documents.

According to Police investigators attached to the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, the accused committed the alleged crime on April 23 this year.

It was established by investigators that the land belongs to the Catholic Church and has a number of occupants including Kyomuhangi, who bought her piece from Queen Mary Nayiga of the same area.

According to the prosecution, Kyagaba claimed that before Nayiga sold the land in question to Kyomuhangi, she (Nayiga) had already given it to him as a reward for having assisted Nayiga to drive illegal occupants off her land.

The prosecution team found this claim not to be true.

“Kyagaba and his workers forcefully demolished Kyomuhangi's house with the view of chasing her away from her kibanja, claiming that she acquired it fraudulently, which was not the case,” reads the prosecution statement in part.

Kyomuhangi filed a complaint with the Police at Entebbe, but she was reportedly not assisted due to alleged Kyagaba's connivance with some Police officers.
