A 28-year-old man was lynched by an angry mob on February 15, 2026, over the alleged theft of chickens.
The incident occurred in Along village, Bobi sub-county, Omoro district, where the deceased, identified as Holyfield Kidgea, was reportedly found with four chickens allegedly stolen from the home of the late Labeja Ocen.
According to Francis Odongkara, the chairperson of Along village, the suspect was discovered with four chickens, two of which had already been slaughtered.
He said that after members of the family raised an alarm, local residents responded and severely beat the suspect.
Police arrived at the scene several hours later, by which time he had died.
Odongkara added that the deceased’s body was handed over to his relatives for burial following a postmortem conducted at Gulu Regional Referral Hospital mortuary.
David Mudong Ongom, the Aswa West Region Police spokesperson, confirmed the incident, saying two individuals who allegedly participated in the lynching later turned themselves in to police and were transferred to Omoro Central Police Station to assist with investigations.
