A man who allegedly killed his wife on Independence Day and left her body locked inside their rented house in Iriaga Central cell, Laroo-Pece division, Gulu city, has surrendered to Police in Namokora sub-county, Kitgum district.

Peter Oryem, the chairperson of Iriaga Central cell, identified the suspect as Mark Acaye, 42, a boda boda rider, and the deceased as Susan Angeyo, 36, a mother of three children.

According to Oryem, on Independence Day, Acaye first took their three children to his wife’s aunt’s home in Layibi centre. He later returned home with his wife, Angeyo, after they had gone out together.

Later that night, Acaye allegedly murdered his wife, locked her body inside their rented house, and fled to his home village in Kitgum district.

David Ongom Mudong, Aswa West region Police spokesperson, confirmed the incident, saying that upon reaching his parents’ home in Namokora on the morning of October 10, Acaye confessed to them that he had killed his wife and locked her body in their house in Gulu.

His parents then escorted him to Namokora sub-county police station, where he surrendered himself.

Mudong said Police in Aswa West Region were alerted by their counterparts in Aswa East Region about Acaye’s confession.

A team from Gulu Central Police Station later visited the crime scene, forced open the locked house, and recovered the body of the deceased, Susan Angeyo, lying on the floor.

The body was taken to Gulu Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem examination and later handed over to relatives for burial in her parents’ home village in Omiya Anyima sub-county, Kitgum district.

Mudong added that arrangements are underway to transfer the suspect, Mark Acaye, to Gulu city, where the crime occurred, to face murder charges before court.
