The Minister of Agriculture, Animal Industry, and Fisheries, Vincent Bamulangaki Ssempijja, has officially tabled the Fisheries and Aquaculture Bill before the Parliament agriculture committee.

While appearing before the committee Tuesday, the minister implored the legislators to expeditiously process the Bill to enable the Government to address the various challenges in the fisheries sector.

The minister expressed disappointment that over the years the fisheries sector has not been accorded the priority it deserves yet it has enormous potential to employ millions of Ugandans and generate a lot of foreign exchange earnings for the country.

The objective of the Bill is to consolidate and reform the law relating to the management of fisheries, fisheries products, and aquaculture.

When the Bill was tabled before parliament on March 9, 2021, the Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga directed the committee to expeditiously process the Bill so that it is passed before the term of the current term parliament ends.
