PARLIAMENT | FISHERIES BILL | MUSEVENI
The Fisheries and Aquaculture Bill, 2022 has been sent back to Parliament for re-examination, according to Speaker of Parliament Anita Among.
At the beginning of the plenary, Among read the letter from the President to the members of Parliament dated August 18, 2022, during her address from the chair.

The President expressed worry in his letter that the bill places the command, control, and training of the surveillance unit organization under the Uganda Police Force (UPDF), while it should be under the Uganda Peoples' Defence Forces (UPDF) and the UPF.

The letter stated: "The support for both the UPDF and the Uganda Police force is essential given the necessity for continual surveillance and sophisticated methods deployed by persons involved in illegal fishing."

However, the speaker requested the members to exercise restraint on the grounds mentioned by the President before referring the bill to the Committee on Agriculture, Animal Industry, and Fisheries for reconsideration.
